  • What is something people in Aged Care have to deal with that you want to fix?

It is very easy to feel and become a number these days. I have become more aware of this as I age, I choose to make the effort to help my clients feel validated and comfortable with me as their Care Partner. I like to have a laugh with them, listen to their stories, and let them know that I am here for them and that they matter.

  • What do you do at Sunrise?

My role as Care Partner primarily involves managing client’s home care packages and working with them to tailor it to their needs. It is a constant juggling act, but I thoroughly enjoy it and work at building positive relationships with my clients to make them feel comfortable enough to trust my guidance. I work with a team of amazing Care Partner who make me laugh every day! They allow me to guide them in developing and achieving targets and goals, and I provide clinical advice and guidance when needed. I work closely with the SHC Management Team to achieve and implement new procedures, report on our Team’s progress, and liaise about any pressing issues. It is an ever evolving role, but one that I relish the challenge of.

  • What is your past experience for working in your position?

I have been employed with NSW Ambulance for almost 3 decades working as an on-road Paramedic for the majority of that time. With that experience, I bring vast clinical knowledge and the ability to empathise with people. I like to think I have a knack for making people feel at ease!”

  • What do you like about working at Sunrise?

I just love working for Sunrise! I thought I would find the transition from being a Paramedic for so long to my new role of Care Partner, extremely difficult, but my new workmates, and the lovely residents of Sunrise Village, have really welcomed me and made me feel so at home. I love the camaraderie and the constant joy I feel each day I’m at work! We really are a tight knit bunch and it's an absolute pleasure to come to work each day.

  • What’s your background?

I grew up in New Lambton Heights (Newcastle). I have an older and younger brother. Unfortunately, my parents have passed away. I miss them dearly, but my brothers and I remain close. I’m grateful they have that same dry sense of humour that I do. We laugh a lot when we are together! I have 2 beautiful teenage children. They keep it interesting for me and are more local than I am, having been born and raised in beautiful Forster! I have only lived here since 2000. Does that make me a local yet?!

  • What are the values that drive you?

    Kindness, Graciousness, Humility

  • Your top 3 favourite Books?

Anything lovey dovey! – I’m a hopeless romantic!

Home Beautiful magazine – I should have been an interior designer!

Google – I am constantly researching stuff online!

  • What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

I’m actually a bit of a loner. I’m happy to potter around at home – gardening; reading; binge watching tele! In between all that, I’m usually running the teenagers around! Something I really do love however, is a weekend away to eat or drink what I want, see a concert or theatre production, or just go for a wander around the shops. I’m a Libran so love all things beautiful and usually arrive back home after a relaxing weekend with a thousand new candles!!
